Monday Evening Workshops

Workshop 1: Tea Ceremony

China has a long history in tea cultivation. Hangzhou is especially famous for the Longjing tea, which is grown in the hills around the city for well over 1000 years. Enjoying tea is a significant part of Chinese culture. Experience a traditional tea ceremony and learn about the procedure and tea culture in China. The ceremony will be accompanied by a Guqin music demonstration.

Workshop 2: Calligraphy Class

Certainly, calligraphy comes to your mind when thinking of China. The unique art of writing has a long history and is known all over the world. Chinese characters are turned into impressive and expressive pieces of art by using ink and a brush. Give it a try and create your own calligraphy guided by a professional instructor. The class will be accompanied by a Guqin music demonstration.

Workshop 3: Go Tutorial

Go is one of the oldest games in the world and has its origin in China but is also very famous in Japan and Korea. Go is a strategic board game for two players. The rules will be explained in a short tutorial and afterward participants will have the chance to play and practice this fascinating game. Join the tutorial and challenge your opponent and your mind!

Fountain and Music Show

The West Lake is certainly one of the most popular sights in Hangzhou. Every evening visitors can enjoy an impressive fountain show on the lake synchronized with Chinese and Western classical and pop music. Join us to see the show and experience the evening mood along the lakeside! Afterwards you may stroll along the waterside or experience the nightlife in downtown Hangzhou.  

Duration:
We will leave the conference hotel at 18:00 and go to the West Lake by Metro. The show will start at 20:00 and will last about 20 min. Afterwards participants may enjoy the city center of Hangzhou and get back to their hotel on their own.
(The show may be canceled in case of very bad weather.)
